Activities
The sunshine and warmer weather means it’s time for lawn games! Dovedale Sports Centre is joining us to lead on archery and ball games on the back lawn.
In preparation for this month’s National Flower Show, kid’s can head into the Terrace Room to make their very own paper floral displays.
Storytime fans won’t want to miss Mike Dodsworth, who’ll be sharing his much-loved tales in the Drawing Room at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2pm. Each session lasts around 20 minutes and is perfect for younger visitors.
Our volunteer-led guided tours run for around 45 minutes and will take place at 10.30am and 1pm, perfect for anyone keen to learn more about the House and its owners as they explore.
This month’s exhibition is on the Gooch Family who lived at Hylands from 1905 to 1920. They were known for hosting many celebrations and even hosted a society wedding that made national headlines!
You can also take a moment to watch our short film about the restoration of Hylands House, playing throughout the day in the Banqueting Room.
Food & Craft Market
Essex Foodies Market is back with a delicious mix of street food, drinks, gifts and crafts. They are back to their normal layout outside the house with over 70 local traders, so be sure to bring your appetite!
Well behaved dogs on leads are always welcome to the outdoor market areas, but are not permitted in the house, Grand Pavilion, or in The Stables courtyard.

The Stables
Our resident artists throw open their studio doors and welcome you to see into their working spaces – explore upstairs as well as downstairs!
Enjoy live music in the courtyard from Hot Box Live with Cornelius from 11am and KG & TC from 1pm.

Visit the Stables Information Point and pick up your handset to explore the Pleasure Gardens in a brand-new way! Our Hylands History & Gardens multimedia tour will be available for you to hire or scan the QR code and listen along with our new tour about the Estate and how it came to be.
Our popular café The Deli will be open at The Stables all day and are bringing back their popular pop-up bakery to the courtyard. You can pre-order your favourites on their website.
