Fireworks Schedule

Professional fireworks displays update

Due to exceptionally dry weather conditions and the recent introduction of a hosepipe ban for Chelmsford, all fireworks displays previously scheduled to take place at Hylands during August have now been cancelled.

Displays scheduled to take place beyond August will be reviewed closer to the time. The following firework displays are scheduled and usually last for about 5 minutes:

  • Friday 4 September at 9.50pm

Firework displays at Hylands are only carried out by an experienced professional company with a range of appropriate safety measures in place, including enhanced procedures during dry conditions.

A new policy has been put into place for private bookings, including weddings and large events, requesting low-noise fireworks to be used on Sundays – Thursdays and after 10pm.

Firework displays are put on by Fireworks Crazy. Please see below for their safety procedures.

As always, all displays are fully risk-assessed beforehand, and then evaluated again on the day by the on-site crew. If the team arrives at the firing site and determines that conditions are unfavourable, they have full authority to decide whether the display can safely go ahead.

During warmer and dry periods, additional staff members are placed on each display. Every team also carries extra fire extinguishers, water containers, fire blankets, and beaters. Furthermore, the display designs directly account for current ground conditions:

  • They do not use long-burning effects that could make contact with the dry ground.
  • The fireworks themselves are always placed on boards or frames so they are not in direct contact with the ground.
  • The area directly around each firing site is dampened down with water before the display starts.
  • All crew members monitor the display area while it is firing, keeping a close eye on any fallout, and are in direct contact via radio to the lead firer who is at the firing desk.
  • They then monitor the display area and fallout zone for a minimum of 1 hour post display.
