Events for 17 November
This month’s Open Estate Day will be focused on people who have worked at Hylands Estate, both past and present.
Here is what’s coming up on Sunday 17 November from 10am to 3pm.
Activities
Our Hylands resident artists, designers and creatives who work hard in their studios at The Stables are displaying their specialisms so you can get to know them better. After a brilliant day last year doing just that, we’re pleased to be showcasing their work in the Banqueting Room again. Be sure to pop over to The Stables to say hello and see their working spaces!
In the Small Dining Room, you will find more about people who volunteer their time to work at Hylands Estate, including the Friends of Hylands House, and garden volunteers. So much hard work goes into maintaining Hylands Estate, and we are grateful for their hard work and dedication.
Our popular Forest School, Green Learning, will be in the Terrace Room running an activity for all the family to enjoy. You will be able to find our social history exhibition in the Library, covering the history of ‘People who worked at Hylands’.
Our tours of the ground floor of Hylands House will take place promptly at 10am and 1pm, delivered by our volunteer tour guide, Michael. Both tours will be British Sign Language interpreted.
Storytelling Mike Dodsworth will be in the Drawing Room telling his well-attended short stories. Times to drop-in and enjoy a story at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2pm. Stories at 11.30am and 2pm will be British Sign Language interpreted.
Food & Craft Market
Urban Food Fest are back, bringing together a fantastic selection of outdoor traders and vendors again for the street food and craft market outside of Hylands House.
Enjoy the Hot Box DJ set outside in the market whilst you’re here.

Keep an eye out for Hawthorn Heavy Horse carriage rides that start from the front of the House! Pay on the day and take a trip around the Estate with a difference (weather and ground condition dependent).
Visit the Stables Information Point and pick up your handset to explore the Pleasure Gardens in a brand-new way! Our Hylands History & Gardens multimedia tour will be available for you to hire or scan the QR code and listen along with our new tour about the Estate and how it came to be.
Our popular café The Deli will be open at The Stables all day!
