ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND


Please note that from Monday 26th June 2018 to Monday 2nd July, access to the adventure playground will only be through Roman Walk and the Willow Tunnels will be closed to the public.

Hylands Estate is home to a free to use award-winning accessible castle themed adventure playground. The playground boasts four metre high castle battlements with portcullis and a cool drawbridge entrance with dedicated play areas for children above and below the age of six. Perfect for imaginative play and exhausting little ones. Grab a tea or coffee at Mauro’s and let the children roam free. The Adventure Playground is located near to the park entrance off Greenbury Way.

Adventure Playground

Younger visitors will be delighted with the exciting castle themed Adventure Playground. The main Adventure Castle has two large sections of castle wall, one of which is fully inclusive and suitable for wheelchairs.

There are ladders, scramble nets and boards with lots of opportunity to climb and run and jump, as well as slides at varying heights, sensory equipment, a musical wall and spinning games discs. Go wild on the high energy swings, with an inclusive cradle swing, or have a go on the moving balance beam or spinning disc roundabout. Explore the castle hamlet with a look-out tower, suitable for children ages six years and under, or a main castle, suitable for children aged six years and above. A large section of the castle wall is suitable for wheelchair users.

There is seating within the main play area along with a large picnic area, which includes some picnic tables suitable for use with wheelchairs.

Adjacent are natural play features such as willow tunnels, carvings and bears.

It is a dog-free area.

ACCESSIBLE

The Adventure Castle play area in Hylands Park is now officially accredited by PiPA, also known as Planning Inclusive Play Areas. Much of the playground was specifically designed in conjunction with special needs school Columbus School and College with disabled children in mind. Inclusive features comprise an acoustic roller providing musical stimulation and a cradle swing to whoosh through the air. There are only 18 sites nationally with PiPA accreditation and the play area in Hylands Park is one of only nine that have the top level ‘Destination’ status. Adjacent to Mauro’s Kiosk and the Adventure Playground is a Changing Places facilities. To become a keyholder please click on the logo.

Mauro’s Kiosk

Mauro’s Kiosk is an outdoor café in Hylands Park situated next to the Adventure Playground. It is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm throughout the week.

• Picnic box lunched
• Cakes and cookies
• Yoghurts and fresh fruit
